Orphans Care Organization - South Sudan is a South Sudanese organization that was founded by South Sudanese who were uncomfortable about the suffering and oblivion of South Sudanese orphans.
After witnessing the sufferings of children in South Sudan since Southern Sudan as a region subjected itself to wars of the struggle for independence with Sudan, these intellectuals found it necessary to extend generous hands to these innocent orphans of the country.
On 30th June 2020, these intellectuals held their first meeting in Wau – South Sudan, outlining their plans for the OCO foundation.
On the same day, these intellectuals optimized their feelings and declared to themselves that nothing would stop them from founding OCO and carrying out its activities.
As quoted from the preamble of the OCO constitution which was drafted by James Aleek Majok one week after the first meeting, the intellectuals outlined the statement below with unyielding commitment.
OCO was founded by few intellectuals and later on more intellectuals whose hearts are full of compassion and commiseration joined it in order to ease the work.
Finally, OCO was unconditionally registered in the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) office in Juba on 9th November 2020 (Monday) and certificated as NATIONAL ORGANIZATION.
After registration OCO outlined its plans to alleviate the sufferings of South Sudanese orphans and other vulnerable children.
Interventions are in the areas of vulnerable children's food security, better livelihood promotion, education support, better health, emergency support, and peace education.
The members of OCO are drawn from different states of South Sudan.
The members through the general assembly elect their representatives to the board of directors. OCO has a board of directors which is made up of seven members headed by Prof. Dr. Abdalla Ramadan Nasir Yango.
The board of directors meets at least twice a year and also when circumstances demand. The board of directors appoints the Executive Director who is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organization.
The Executive Director is mandated by the board to appoint other staff of the organization. The day-to-day management of the organization is overseen by the Chief Executive Officer and other members of the Management Committee.
The Management Committee consists of departmental heads and the Chief Executive Officer. Field staff who do the actual implementation of the activities are present in all the locations where OCO operates.
